Displaying post excerpt rather than full post

  I have created a post for which I added an excerpt. On my post page, it shows the post title, featured image, and post text.

  I would like to show only the title, image, and excerpt (which will open the full post upon clicking on it) on the ‘Posts’ page. Any help would be appreciated as I cannot seem to figure out how to do this.

  Sure thing! For this, you can specify an excerpt for each post, or use the more tag to split the post:

  Thank you very much for your reply. I reviewed those help articles and tried to make those changes on my page.

  When I use the <!–more–> tag, it simply places the “Continue Reading” link after the initial text of my post. It does not take the excerpt text that I specified in the Excerpt Box under More Options as described in your first link.

  Clicking on the link shows the entire post, including the text before the link. My desired effect is to have a post preview, containing the excerpt text, which shows the post text (and not the excerpt text) after clicking the link.

  I am using Baskerville theme. Is this feature not available for the theme?

  Are you using both methods at the same time? If so, try only using the excerpt without the more tag.

  Removing the more tag shows the entirety of the post on the posts page in the single narrow column provided by the theme. The only time I see the excerpt text is when I view the post in the WordPress Reader.

  Just to try, I activated the Dyad theme and saw that the excerpt was correctly appearing on the posts page (without using the more tag). I am thinking I may be restricted to the theme’s default setting here, but perhaps you know of some way I can override this?
