distasteful ads on a course page
-
I created a course page on wordpress.com for a class I teach.
Recently, it started showing rather distasteful images, like https://d31otfhas71ais.cloudfront.net/images/active_pk/belly_front1200x627.jpg. As I constantly use that site in the classroom, it’s a bit of an embarrassment, especially if the same ad is repeated several times on the same page, like https://linearmap.wordpress.com/week-1-math-221/ .
While I understand the importance of ads revenue for you, is there a way you can designate these sites to a separate category that I could keep off the course page?
Thanks,

Hi Eugene,
When someone loads your site in their browser, advertisers bid in real time on the ad slots available on your site. Which advertisers bid depends on the visitor viewing your site – factors like their location, browser history, tracking cookies stored in their browser, etc. The only factor of your site itself that really influences things is your site language, and your site content/subject matter doesn’t affect the type of ads that are shown at all.
Which means you’re seeing those specific ads because advertisers are targeting you with them. It’s possible no other visitors to your site sees those ads, and no two people viewing your site will see exactly the same ads – if I view your site I just see ads for products I recently searched for on an online shopping platform I use regularly.
We serve hundreds of millions of ads across WordPress.com a day and have no direct control over which specific ads show to specific users on any site at any time.
