distraction free writing does not work any longer in classic mode

  As of Friday last week, the “distraction free writing” mode ceased to operate correctly on my Firefox browser. Clicking on the icon in the “classic editing” environment only remove the right and left panels on my screen, while the central one remains exactly the same. This “distraction free writing” mode still works properly in the “improved posting experience” but I want to keep using the more pleasant classic mode editor.

  Hello again!

  You are right, Distraction Free Writing does function differently now, according to the preference of most of our users.

  You may wish to utilize your browser’s full screen mode, which adds to the full screen experience.

  When you’re in Distraction Free Mode:

  Enable full screen in Firefox and Chrome, by going to View → Full Screen, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F (on Windows) or Command+Shift+F (on a Mac). To disable full screen, use the same keyboard shortcut, or move your mouse to the top of the screen to reveal the menu.

  I do not understand why users would prefer this format or which kind of statistical analysis you used to assert that this is “according to the preference of most of our users”. What I enjoyed with the earlier format was the total absence of distraction, a perfectly white screen with not even the tool bar unless I really needed it. Now I am stuck with the tool bar and I do not see why moving full screen helps. It makes moving to other tabs of my browser for references and links a pain, while the nice writer’s feeling of the white page filling up has vanished. No thank-you’s for this move.

  Sorry you’re less than thrilled with the way the distraction free writing mode looks in the classic editor. I know you wanted to stick with it, but as the new editor is functioning the way you want, you may find it works best for you in the long run.
