My posts sometimes go to the ‘social’ side of people’s emails; and sometimes to the ‘primary’. Can I direct them to the latter?

This is a good question. Folks will need to configure their email as you’ve described. It’s not something that you can configure from the WordPress.com side of things. Each email client is going to be different, as well as each follower having their own preferences. If somebody reports that they aren’t seeing your post notification you can ask them to search for it in their email, and then move it to the primary inbox once located. This should help the email tool learn that they want to find and see that content as it comes through.
