Ditching blocks on wordpress.com free sites

    Hi, I have the free version of WP.com, and I have spent far too long trying to go back to the classic editor without success. Block editor is honestly the most stressfully, pointlessly complicated wreck, and I’m so far behind in my work because of it.

    I keep seeing people say use the plugin, but on the free version, you can’t do that without paying for a premium service, which I won’t be doing. I’ve followed the links and advice in similar questions and gotten the same response: no plug in without upgrading to a paid account.

    I don’t want to just use a classic editor block, I want the whole ridiculousness of blocks removed from my blog (& preferably set on fire & returned to hell where it belongs).

    Is there a way to go back to classic editor on the free version of WP.com?

    I agree. How did you go back to the classic editor.

    You can’t disable the Block Editor, but you may certainly avoid using it. The alternative is the old WP-Admin editor, which is now being referred to as the “Classic Editor.” See this post in the topic “How to disable Block Editor and return to Classic Editor?” You can’t disable the Block Editor, but you may certainly avoid using it.

    Btw, I’ve been using the WP-Admin editor virtually exclusively for over 10 years. It still works fine, and I’ve always considered it much better than the newer editors that keep cropping up, vastly better.

    @Rita,

    Hi. My advice to @writerkylie applies to you also. Every WordPress.com member still has access to the WP-Admin editor.

    The classic block is covering all my needs; just use it and you will have the same experience as always (until now, I used only the editor of the administrative area).

  • Hi folks, you can (for now) use the editor at https://wordpress.com/dashboard, however I do recommend trying blocks and letting us know what issues you’re running into, so we can get them taken care of before that editor is retired.

    Thanks!
