Divesting 2 blogs & Login Issues
-
This is complex and I apologize in advance. I already tried the AI chatbot which was unhelpful.
I started a blog 10+ years ago here with my primary Gmail address for my professional persona. I then created a more personal, travel blog a few weeks ago (it’s not published yet) and decided I should divest it from this account. I did three things:
- I created a second account with my secondary Gmail address, realized it would be better to use my primary so deleted the account. It deleted without problems.
- I changed my email address on this account to my secondary email.
- I deleted the Google sign-in associated with this account (which was through my primary email.)
Now when I try to log in, I can’t use a password for this account. I cannot create an account with my primary Gmail as it says it’s already in use, but then I cannot log in to it (says to use my username not my email address and then won’t send me a link or take me to where I can actually enter a password). I try to change this account back to my primary Gmail and it says I cannot as it’s already in use elsewhere.
Please help!

When you change or delete the email address of an account, the email address is blocked for 30 days.

Just adding to what @staartmees mentioned, it’s blocked for 30 days, which is the recovery period before an account is purged, locked and can’t be reused. https://wordpress.com/support/email-address/#reuse-an-email-address
So if this is urgent and you are within that 30 day period, you can respond to the email you received from WordPress.com when you deleted the account/email. After you have recovered it, change the email on that account to a different email.
Also, WordPress.com recognizes as a different email address the Gmail trick of adding a +something to your email address so youremail+gone AT gmail would be a separate address from youremail AT gmail
Otherwise, you’ll need to wait until the 30 days have passed before trying to use that other email address.
Hope that also helps.
