Dividing my blog into sections
-
Hi, I want to divide my blog into 3 sections: Counseling, Personal, and Guest Writers. How can I do this most effectively? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. Easiest way to do this is assign those three as categories for your posts and then set up category pages in the menu for those three categories. Your home page will still show all your posts, but the category pages will only show posts belonging to that specific category.
See these documents for detailed instructions in setting up a custom menu with category pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/If you don’t want all your posts to appear on the home page, you can set a static page as your home page instead: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

You’ll need to have at least one post published in any one category before you’ll be able to create a page for that category.

Kokkieh, thank you so much, that is really helpful. I made the 3 sections into Categories and now the posts on the home page automatically show up in the specific section that correspond to the correct category. One more question for you: Is it possible to have some kind of “sub-category?”
For example, under the category, “Counseling,” is there a way to have several drop down sections such as “conflict,” “depression,” and “eating disorders?” Then, is there a way for posts to be filtered by these subcategories as well?
Thanks so much for your help. I read all of the links that you sent and couldn’t find an answer to this question.

First, you can create sub-categories. While creating or editing a post, add a new category. You’ll see the option to set a parent for that category. Or you can create subcategories from the Categories section of the dashboard. (You can also assign multiple categories to any post, if you want a particular post to show up in more than one category page). See: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
I’ve never tried adding category pages under other category pages in the menu, but I can’t think why it won’t work. Create category pages for the sub-categories exactly as you did for the main categories, and then drag-and-drop them in the custom menu screen to position them as child pages to the main ones.

I’m headed to bed now as it’s getting late in my part of the world, but if you need any more help, please post here. I’ll check in again tomorrow if another volunteer doesn’t take over :)
