DNS

Thanks for the email. Unfortunately, I’m still directing traffic to the wrong site. I want my wordpress domain (taiwoheard.com) to point to my non- wordpress site (http://www.i-m.co/taiheard/BWxii/) but it still isn’t working. Try it! What I thought I was paying for with site redirect was the ability to paste any site into the redirect field, press a button, and get on with my life. I’ve gone beyond that with no results so could you just fix it on your end? I don’t need pointers or tutorials, I’ve done enough already. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Since you changed the name servers so they don’t point to WordPress.COM the site redirect never gets a chance to work since traffic never gets here – if you want site redirect the name servers need to point to WordPress.COM

    Domain Name: TAIWOHEARD.COM
    Registrar: WILD WEST DOMAINS, LLC
    Whois Server: whois.wildwestdomains.com
    Referral URL: http://www.wildwestdomains.com
    Name Server: DNS1.SITEZOOGLE.COM
    Name Server: DNS2.SITEZOOGLE.COM

    Redirect a WordPress.com Site Address

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

In case you have other setting that need correcting I will flag this for staff attention

So… are to saying I didn’t purchase the domain from you, I got it from Wild West domains? I’ve never heard of them! Anyhow…. Should I just erase everything from the DNS edit field? Tell me exactly way needs to be in that field, including line numbers, etc. and I’ll just copy paste. I’m not being lazy, I just paid for the redirect because I don’t have time for this. It seems like the solution should be simple, either tell me what to so in one email- I don’t need an explanation I just want it to work. I shouldn’t need to know web protocol- I’ve got an entirely different skill set that I’m quite happy with. I’ve told you what I want, please just help me fix it or refund me.

Doing a bit more research for you – I am not sure that you really want Site Redirect.

I am not staff- I am an unpaid volunteer that helps in the forum some of the time I can not see or change any of your account info or settings.

Wild West Domains handles all the registrations from WordPress.COM. So you are in the correct place for help.

You have probably already changed the name servers at some point from WordPress.COM

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

http://www.i-m.co/taiheard/BWxii/ now ends up with the domain name of http://taiwoheard.com/home.cfm – indicating that taiwoheard.com/ is mapped correctly to .i-m.co/taiheard/BWxii/ – is that the content you want displayed?

If the content showing up on the web site is the correct content

Your old site taiwoheard.wordpress.com. redirects to taiwoheard.com/ indicating that you have either domain mapping or site redirect set up to send traffic from your old base site taiwoheard.wordpress.com

Is the above functioning what you want to happen?

    Hello,

No, it’s still linking to my old site. That horrible site you’re seeing is not the right one, it should be in black and white. Thanks for your help, though I’d love to know how to get the attention of an actual staff member. I’ve done this before with on my own, btw which is why I think there’s something wrong- perhaps beyond what you can help me with on your end. Thanks for all of the research, but I’d already read all of the pages you linked to several times. I know that a lot of users want easy answers without having to think for themselves, but I’m just attempting to pay to outsource this internet issue because frankly, I have other things to do and think about. Thank you for all of your help, but I need a staffer on this one.

    Best,

    Taiwo Heard

A few things in general and no links

Usually the name servers need to be pointed to the host where a site is located.

So the name servers for taiwoheard.com should be pointed to the host for your main site ( .i-m.co/taiheard/BWxii/ – if this is your main site the name servers should be pointed to the host for it – and all hosts have slightly different names for where they want the name servers to point to – and sometimes more than one name server ( WordPress.COM has three name servers for instance)

Then the physical site you want to show on the web needs to be configured to route a domain name to the physical site – that configuration is done by the host – in the case of WordPress.COM and a Custom Domain Name the process is called Domain Mapping.

Note: you can have more than one domain name mapped to the same physical web site – but only one can be configured as “Primary” in that the Primary domain name is displayed in the browser address bar.

Lets see if I can give an example that might help

    Domain Name Name Server

Your-good-site.com ns1.your-host.com Set as Primary by host

    Your-other-site.com ns1.your-host.com Mapped to Your-good-site.com

The mapping of Your-other-site.com is done by your host to Your-good-site.com

What is the site name you want displayed in the browser window?

Is .i-m.co/taiheard/BWxii/ where your content is physically located?

Is http://sitezoogle.com/ where your web site is now located / your new host?

I see all your pictures seem to be located on it for http://taiwoheard.com/home.cfm

PS – the extra questions are ones the staff will need answered, so I am trying to save you some time
