DNS and domain mapping not working

    Hi there.
    My site is simonritchierealestate.wordpress.com.
    I have purchased (separately from WordPress) westaucklandrealestateguy.co.nz as the primary domain, with therealestateguy.nz redirecting to it (another domain purchased separately – this redirection seems to be successful and is not part of my query).

    I have purchased WordPress domain mapping, I have changed the DNS server names with my registrar as instructed (ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, ns3.wordpress.com) and I have changed the primary domain (in the WordPress control panel) to westaucklandrealestateguy.co.nz.

    Once that is done (and even if I leave it for hours) all that I see when typing in westaucklandrealestateguy.co.nz or therealestateguy.nz is the domain in the URL bar and a blank browser window with a spinning wheel as though the browser is thinking.

    If I change the DNS servers back to default and change the primary domain back to my WordPress URL it all works fine.

    None of the WordPress instructions that I read asked for me to change the A or C-name records, etc. Have I missed something else? Any help greatly appreciated!

    DNS changes can take as much as 72 hours to propagate.

    For what it’s worth, all three of your addresses seem to work for me. I end up at the same website each time. :)

    Thanks for that. The reason you can see them is because I changed all the DNS settings back to default (rather than using the WordPress ones).

    So, you think if I just made the change and left it up to 72 hours that it would then work?

    It’s just a real pain that the website is effectively “down” (no one can see it) during that period with potential loss of business. It’s a shame there is no other way.

    Yep, http://westaucklandrealestateguy.co.nz/ works fine for me, right now.
    BTW, I live in Majorca, Spain.

    Thanks to both of you for your feedback. I will make the change over a weekend when the impact of the site being down will be less noticed.
