DNS and hosting backups
-
Im just gonna copy & paste what my new web host needs me to do because I have no idea what any of this means. I bought new hosting and they told me in order to migrate my existing wordpress site I needed to point the DNS to them because my domain server is through Google. So I did that but now they need me to this? PLEASE HELP!!
‘In order to migrate the site from one server to another, we need to access the old hosting or we should be able to login to the old WordPress admin panel so that we can try migrating using the plugins. In this case, the DNS is already pointed to us and we are unable to access the WordPress dashboard.
I have found the old ‘A’ records which were pointing to Google(please find the screenshot attached) and I tried to access the WordPress login by updating my hosts IP to your old A records. However, it is not accessible. Could you please provide us with the old hosting backups so that we can restore them for you? Or allow us to access the old WordPress dashboard by updating the DNS to the old hosting account. If you are not sure about the old records I would suggest you consult your web developer.’

Hi there,
To clarify, you are trying to move the contents of your site from veronicacristinaray.wordpress.com to a new site you are setting up on a different hosting provider?
If so please be aware that outside hosts use a different version of WordPress from the custom cloud-based version we offer on WordPress.com. The instructions your host provided will work if you are transferring from another traditional “web host” but those instructions do not work for WordPress.com sites.
Instead this guide will walk you through the process of moving your site off of WordPress.com and on to a traditional web host: https://move.wordpress.com/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
