DNS Changes
-
Hello, I recently bought a domain and hosting through wordpress.com. After doing so I realized that wordpress.com didn’t have the plugin support that wordpress.org offers. I opened a wordpress hosting account at Godaddy and changed the DNS settings (A record) to point to the new host, however after receiving the prompt that save was successful nothing updates on the screen. It continues to say,
A-record: mysite.com handled by wordpress.com
It has been 48 hours and still nothing has updated. Is something wrong, or is this completely normal?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re currently getting the random theme I picked on wordpress.com hosted by wordpress.com. I’m changed hosts. If the DNS was pointing to the correct place I wouldn’t be seeing this stuff from the old host.

See here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/
And be awarePlease note transferring a domain is only possible if it’s been more than 60 days since the domain was registered.

galois, I appreciate your help, but I’m changing hosts, not transferring a domain name. This requires that my DNS settings point to the new host.

What do you want exactly?
a) use the domain http://dionysusgrowsystems.com/ on your new hostingb) export the contents of your blog hosted by WordPress.com to your new site

Then, read the article that I gave you in my second response:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/And again,
Please note transferring a domain is only possible if it’s been more than 60 days since the domain was registered.

Thank you for the link, but this webpage is more of what I am looking for, https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/”
Look under:
Updating DNS records using A Records
Some hosting providers require further DNS changes to point a domain to their servers. They may provide A and CNAME records you need to add to your WordPress.com domain.
Update: Just contacted the host and updated nameservers on wordpress.com instead. I feel like this will work. Will let you know.

Everything worked. My domain now points to the proper host. Instead of changing the single DNS A record, I had to update both nameservers. Thank you for your help galois, I checked out your blog http://trasnochada.es/, it was a good read :)
