dns changes

I am trying to make some dns updates but when I log in I do not see the options. Last time I chatted they told me I need to log in as ‘site creator’ I asked the only other person with access to make me a ‘site creator’ and she told me that we were both set as ‘administrators’ and there was no ‘site creator’ permission. How can I make these DNS changes?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

    Hi there!

The only person who can make changes to a domain – including DNS – is the account that purchased the domain because of the strict rules surrounding ownership of a domain.

Just to make sure, I pulled up your last support contact and they advised you need to be logged into the account that created the site to access the site’s backend. I didn’t see that you asked about domain management specifically, so they responded with general account access information.

    I hope that clarifies things!

So is there anyway to tell who holds that account? Or what the username on the account is? It looks like there’s only 3 users besides me, it should be one of them correct?

  • Hi there,

For security reasons we are not able to offer hints, as that info can sometimes be used by bad actors to compromise an account. However, generally speaking the upgrades are “owned” by one of the other administrators to your site, typically the person who first set up the site.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
