The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Your domain http://stjude.ca/ is actually registered somewhere else according to it’s Whois info here but mapped to your WordPress.com blog that’s why you’re getting the error.
To edit your DNS records, you will need to do this directly from your domain registrar, where the domain was bought.
-
Thanks for the quick response. my domain has always been registered else and i know that that its just mapped to wordpress.
Despite that in the past i have been able to change the DNS records in wordpress and those changes actually got my hosting with godaddy to work.
-
i have checked my account with netfirms.com and i am point the name servers to be wordpress ones
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com -
Despite that in the past i have been able to change the DNS records in wordpress and those changes actually got my hosting with godaddy to work.
Custom DNS records are only available if you already added a custom domain to your blog – that is a domain that was registered through WordPress.com not mapped.
Domains that are bought and registered through WordPress.com are hosted at WordPress.com itself and not anywhere else.
i have checked my account with netfirms.com and i am point the name servers to be wordpress ones
Yes, I can confirm that your domain is mapped correctly to your WordPress.com blog because of those name servers – that is the domain is hosted at WordPress.com where the site/blog can be controlled.
Here’s the support page from Netfirms on how to change your domain’s DNS records:
http://www.netfirms.com/knowledgebase/beta/article.bml?ArticleID=1776And this is their support page on how to change MX records (email records):
http://www.netfirms.com/knowledgebase/beta/article.bml?ArticleID=179You can get the MX records information from your email service provider.
-
Im sorry if i am missing something here. I dont think that Netfirms is controlling or propagating the MX records information at all. It has been WordPress all along. Please see the results of the mxtools search as prove.
MXTOOLS result for mail.stjude.ca
In the past, i have been able to edit the DNS records in WordPress and got it to work (and it still does now) with goDaddy.
What you are seeing as
mail.stjude.ca 107.180.55.19 belongs to goDaddy

Alright, I see your point now. Sorry for the confusion and my mistake. I also found a thread with the same error message: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/error-message-while-trying-to-add-a-new-mx-dns-record?replies=4
Staff will need to check on this so I added the modlook tag to call their attention. While waiting for their reply, please post the DNS record(s) you’re trying to enter so they can help you enter those and save it on their end.

No worries.. I really appreciate your prompt response, so Thank you! with regards to the DNS records, i want only the following A and MX records besides the ones Handled by WordPress. Please delete any other A, CNAME, TXT and SRV records.
A mail.stjude.ca points to 69.49.101.233
MX stjude.ca mx1c11.megamailservers.com 10 (priority)
MX stjude.ca mx2c11.megamailservers.com 100
MX stjude.ca mx3c11.megamailservers.com 110Thanks again!

The issue is that the WordPress.com user account that you are posting from is not the owner of the stjude.ca domain registration.
So you must have ended up with a second WordPress.com account at some point. You will need to log into the other account in order to access the stjude.ca DNS settings.

I will follow up with the owner and ask him to send me another admin invite. Thanks Josh!
-
I checked the stjude people team profile page and it shows me as an admin
wordpress people profile -
-
i dug a lil deeper and the error message states that only the OWNER is allowed to edit the information. Additionally, i see that my pchiu73 profile has the WP admin link.
I created a new Admin user profile and it doesnt seem to have the WP admin link.
alzjose also pointed to other users having similar issue here: -
Yes, only the owner can make those changes. You will need to log into the WordPress.com user account that owns the upgrade, I’m afraid.
-
is this a new wordpress.com restriction ? i am one of the admins of this blog and i have been able to make these DNS record updates before.
The owner of the account is not technical and will only be available after school opens and I need to have the emails working by then. My apologies, by this sudden restriction seem a little arbitrary – especially when the admin can perform other major blog updates. -
Upgrades are owned by individual users, not by the blogs themselves. So I’m sure you can see how allowing non-owners to make changes to those upgrades might be a security risk.
Perhaps the upgrade owner could transfer the upgrade to you if they are non technical?
-
So this is a new restriction unilaterally implemented by WordPress without prior communication to its customer base. Admins in any IT fields have been to have access rights to more than just DNS records. As a case scenario, The fact that I as admin can add other admin users pose a bigger security threat. Shouldn’t the owners solely be responsible with determining and delegating the access levels? I can’t imagine other hosting providers doing what WordPress just did – unilaterally change user access policy. It can only be catastrophic to their business. If this is WordPress new policy, I will not pursue this further.
But rest assured, if I was thinking of having my own personal business blog and website hosted by WordPress before, that is definitely not the case now. Thanks -
I can get the owner to provide me the access credentials.. But I won’t as I think WordPress needs to own and resolve this issue. As it is quite evident the St Jude blog is my son’s school and I have been trying to helping with the email situation
