DNS is not getting updated

  • Unknown's avatar

It been 3 days and my DNS has not still not updated. When I checked in a DNS Propagation Lookup tool, it shows that the MX records have not been updated in any location. The A and CNAME records are done in most of the places. Could you please help me update my DNS as soon as possible.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Since your name servers are not pointed at WordPress.com, we have no control over your DNS settings.

As Ian explained in your previous thread, the best way to set up your domain mapping upgrade is to change your name servers to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you don’t know how to do this, you’ll need to contact your registrar for assistance.

Once you’ve done that, I can help you set up the rest of your DNS settings through our system.

I would like to show you what I have done. I want to attach a screenshot of the ‘edit domain’ section. Can I?

I have already manually changed the MX records for the mail to be handled by WordPress name servers as mentioned above. The A, NS and CNAME records got updated by themselves and it shows that they are handled by WordPress.com.

I checked in a DNS propagation checking tool and it shows that A, NS and CNAME have not propagated in a few countries (2-3) but MX has not propagated anywhere at all…

And I did the usual clearing my cookies a hundred times… and I even checked if my site was up by surfing anonymously using ‘Anonymouse.org’ and it’s still a bummer… zilch!

    Please help! :(

    Hi there!

I’m sorry, I think there was some confusion there. You do not need to set up A, NS, CNAME, TXT, or MX records for WordPress.com. But you do need to contact your domain registrar and have them change your name servers to what I posted previously.

This will not be done through your WordPress.com dashboard.

    Your name servers are currently:
    dns1.name-services.com
    dns2.name-services.com
    dns3.name-services.com
    dns4.name-services.com
    dns5.name-services.com

It looks like your registrar might be Enom. Do you have an account with Enom.com?

I’m sorry.. At the risk of sounding like a complete dumbo.. What is this enom? Or a registrar? Is it like godaddy?

In that case, do I make an account at enom?

    Hi there!

It looks like you were able to get this sorted out! Your name servers are now set to WordPress.com and your domain is redirecting correctly.

Let me know if you still have questions about registrars and I’d be happy to help out!

Yes! I figured it out finally. I called up the enom support guys and they told me how to do it myself.
I’ll write it out here so anyone else with the similar problem can go through:

    – I had previously purchased a domain directly from blogger. When I migrated my blog to WordPress, they gave me the option to remap my blog to an existing domain that I previously own. I paid 13$ for that.
    – I was asked to set the nameservers such that they point to wordpress.com.
    – the mistake I was doing was going to the Store -> Domains -> ‘edit domain’ section and manually changing it there.
    – But I had to contact my domain registrar and change the nameservers from there.
    – mine was Enom.com. So i had to go to access.enom.com and login (if you forget password, just type something wrong and you’ll the correct one to your email)
    – then you have to change the nameservers in the DNS section to the required wordpress ones…
    – and Voila! Within less than an hour I was good to go.

    A few tips:
you can google for DNS Propagation Look up tools to check how far long the propagation has come after setting the nameservers and remapping your domain.
You can go to http://www.anonymouse.org and surf anonymously to see if you blog is showing up after the domain change
If it is, clear your cookies and try again. You should be good!
    :)
