DNS is not updated correctly but I purchased my url through wordpress

  I purchased a domain upgrade several years ago which has since lain dormant and expired. I’d like to revisit this project, but am having trouble updating the DNS. I have updated the DNS with code linking my url to Google apps, where I’ve registered an e-mail account for that same domain. I suspect that this might be part of the mix-up.

  Steps I’ve taken before hitting a wall:

  When I click on the link that tells me that my DNS needs to be updated, I get to a screen that instructs me to: “Point goldfinchlibrary.com’s nameservers to your site
  Using the DNS tools provided by your domain registrar, remove any existing nameservers and add the following:

  NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
  NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
  NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
  Then come back here and try again. It may take several hours for our system to recognize the changes.”

  When I go in to edit the DNS, though I don’t know how to format that, especially with the existing links that link up my google e-mail account. Oh, and in trying to update the DNS I deleted all of the code that points to my google account, and I’m not sure how to get that back, either. But if I figured it out the first time, I’ll be able to again once my domain itself has been reactivated.

  All of the help articles regarding DNS that I’ve found seem to only instruct me on what to do if I registered my domain elsewhere, but I am certain that I purchased my domain name through WordPress.com.

  The problem you are having with the DNS settings is because goldfinchlibrary.com expired 233 days ago. As the domain is no longer registered to you, you don’t have access to the DNS settings.

  However, the good news is that it looks like goldfinchlibrary.com is available to be registered. Simply log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, enter goldfinchlibrary.com in the “add a domain” box and click the “add domain” button. Then simply follow the instructions that appear to register your domain.
