My organization owns pnmd.org. How can I route users who type “pnmd.org” in their browsers to my blog pnmdtest.wordpress.com?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

First, you’ll want to purchase a Domain Mapping upgrade. You can do this through your dashboard at Store > My Domains. Select Map an Existing Domain Name.

Then in order for the domain to direct to your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to change your nameservers to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If you’re not sure how, you’ll need to contact your registrar for assistance.

You can read more about domain mapping here:

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!

    Hi Shawna,

Thank you for your helpful response. I’ve already gone to Store > My Domains and selected “Map an Existing Domain Name.” I have successfully added “pnmd.org” as a second domain. The primary domain is pnmdtest.wordpress.com. I assume that I must now contact the registrar to change our nameservers per your instructions.

One of my predecessors registered my organization’s “pnmd.org” domain several years ago–but it has remained unused. No one in my organization knows who the registrar was. I guess my best bet is to see if someone at ICANN or Network Solutions can identify our registrar.

My question is: Am I on the right track? Again, many thanks for your help.

    Hello again!

You definitely are on the right track! I just looked up the whois information for your domain:

    http://who.is/whois/pnmd.org

It looks like your registrar is 1 & 1 and your domain expired on May 5, 2014. In order to update your DNS settings, you’ll need to renew your domain. But contacting support over at 1 & 1 is probably your best starting point!

Good luck! Let me know if I can help further! :)

Thanks Shawna. As a matter of fact, I’m now in touch with 1 & 1, and hope to have a resolution soon. I’m impressed with WordPress’s documentation on dealing with DNS issues. Thank you. And please convey my thanks to your documentation folks.

    Shawna,
I’ve got bad news from 1and1, the registrar of the “pnmd.org” domain. Their billing department informs me that my organization, PNMD (Parkinson Network of Mount Diablo), does *not* own this domain. It is owned by a German entity called DomCollect AG. Their account is delinquent and 1and1 has scheduled the domain for deletion. When that happens, PNMD can buy it. But not until then. But I have paid WordPress the $13.00 fee to map the pnmd.org domain. Who should I contact to request a refund? Many thanks. Howard

Oh no! Well, I’m more than happy to refund your Domain Mapping upgrade. Please note, it normally takes around a week for a refund to appear on your bank statement.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with!
