DNS, MX, etc.

I have the domain redcap.com and it’s registered at GoDaddy. The name servers have been set to Verio for a long time and that’s who provides several @redcap.com email addresses and where I get all my email.

I want to map redcap.com to a WordPress.com hosted website. I don’t want to disturb email or anything else. I’ve read your, Godaddy’s, and Verio’s Help but they’re all at least a little unclear.

    Here’s what Verio says:
    Existing Resource Records

    Name Type Data Actions
    localhost.redcap.com Address Record (A) 127.0.0.1
    redcap.com Address Record (A) 207.57.124.208 Edit , Remove
redcap.com Mail Exchange Record (MX) preference=10, host=redcap.com. Edit , Remove
http://ftp.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
imap.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
mail.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
news.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
pop.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
smtp.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove
http://www.redcap.com Canonical Name (CNAME) redcap.com. Edit , Remove

After paying $13 and mapping redcap.com to WordPress.com by changing the name servers at Verio, what exactly do I need to do at WordPress.com to ensure my email is unchanged and undisturbed?

  • You are probably going to want to take a look at this page if you have not already:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

  • The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s name servers to the following values:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

However, another option would be to map your domain using A records. Please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records, accordingly.

If you still want to map your domain using A records, please be sure to create two records using these IP addresses:

    192.0.78.12
    192.0.78.13
