Hi there,
You may want to set the primary site address to the domain of old URL under Settings -> General
(If it’s a custom domain, you’ll first need to map the domain under Upgrades → Domains)

Hi there,
Your domain’s name servers are pointed to us, but you have a custom A record set, pointing your domain to another provider via their IP address.
If you want the domain to point to your WordPress.com site again, go to Upgrade ->Domains, click on the domains, and look for the option to edit the DNS records. Delete the custom A record, and that will automatically restore our default A records in it’s place:

Thanks for your response.
I’ve navigated through to the DNS Records, but it appears the A type cannot be deleted. Any other ideas please?
Thank you! -
Hm, that’s odd. What error do you get when you try to remove the A Record? https://wordpress.com/en/support/domains/custom-dns/

Oh goodness, I’m so sorry I didn’t check this.
That’s because that’s our A Record.
For the site to work properly under the domain, it will need to be set as the site’s Primary Address: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address (which requires a paid plan, any paid plan).

Hi there,
Normally it requires a paid plan to set a domain on WordPress.com as the primary domain on your site.
But your domain predates this policy, and is already set as primary. And I see you deleted the custom A record here just before you posted in this thread again, and your domain is now loading your WordPress.com site again.
If it’s not loading the WordPress.com site for you, please clear your browser cache, and that should fix it on your end.

Thank you so much!
Also (sorry) we had an email connected to the original site which was also free, (email visible only to moderators and staff). Is this still operational? Thanks so much for all this assistance.

It doesn’t look like you had that email with us – we do sell email hosting services as a paid add-on, but you’ve never owned any of those products with us.
Based on the DNS records for your domain, you were using the Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite/Googl Apps) email service. The DNS records are still active on your domain, so as long as the actual email account is active, the email should still work.
But for the status of the email account itself you’ll need to contact Google directly (or if you bought that service via another provider, you’ll need to contact that provider).
If that account isn’t active and it’s not possible to reactivate it any more, you can take a look at the email services we offer here if you want to set up a new email for your domain:
