DNS Nameserver not accepted by my provider
-
Dear all,
I own the domain strietz.de. My current provider is 1und1 in germany. In the last month I forwarded the url “strietz.de” to “tanjastrietz.wordpress.com”.
What I want now is to use “strietz.de” as domain in wordpress, so that people see http://www.strietz.de in the browser and are not getting forwarded. In my wordpress.com settings in the menu “Store” > “Domains” I bought the domain mapping for $13 for “strietz.de”. I’ve got the information that I should enter the nameserver ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com. I changed the url forwarding option to dns name server option and added the nameserver at my german provider.
I got the error message, that the dns servernames are not correct. I called the german provider support and he also told me that I seems that the dns servernames are not correct and there should be a problem an wordpres.com. He told me to ask you for an IP Adress or other options.
I’m not a professional! Can you help me? Are there any other things that I have to setup at wordpress.com?
Thanks!!
Fredrik

I added a Zone Record for strietz.de – give it a little time ( 15 to30 minutes) to propagate and try changing the name servers again – use the instructions below –

After you added the Zone Record for strietz.de, it seems I was able to add/register the three wordpress.com dns nameserver. I made the DNS-Check at my providers webpage and I see your wordpress.com nameservers now. So far, so good.
But currently there is still a kind of “under construction” information if you type http://www.strietz.de in your browser. My provider says, that it could take up to 48 hours until the information is published to all the servers in the internet. Is it true? Can you see more?
Thanks (also for your fast first answer!)

Update information: My providers DNS Check tells me:
Domainname: strietz.de
IP-Adresse (A-Record) : 66.155.11.238
Nameserver 1: ns3.wordpress.com
Nameserver 2: ns2.wordpress.com
Nameserver 3: ns1.wordpress.com
Mailserver 1: mx01.kundenserver.de, 10
Mailserver 2: mx00.kundenserver.de, 10
I think it looks good – but still there is just the “under construction” page when typing http://www.strietz.de ….

Yes, the “up to 48 hours” is certainly true – a lot of sources say “up to 72 hours”. DNS changes propagate across the web, so some people will see the new site almost immediately and it will take others longer.
For what its worth I can see your blog at the address now.

Also due to caching issues you will be the last one to see your site – since @tandava108 can see your new address that is a good sign

Whats my DNS shows the changes are sweeping across the internet

It also looks like you will have email with your custom domain name – see the link below for help on getting the email to keep working – you will need to make some changes here, with info you get from your email host

I think there is no need to change my mail-settings… As you can see in my list above, i keep the mailserver 1 and 2 at my current provider. I think I just changed the url/dns settings but not my mail settings. Isn’t that right ??

Dear supporter,
it works now. The DNS Name is changed now and my email is still working.
Thanks a lot for your great support!
Regards
Fredrik
