DNS needs to be updated
-
Hello,
I bought my domain and mapping from WordPress store. (2012/08/02)
My site is down for 5 days now. My Store->My Upgrades screen shows red text “DNS needs to be updated” message, but I can’t do it manually, and none of the guides help.
Can you help me about this issue? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I’ll be happy to take a closer look. Which domain are you referring to? Is it lisanifarisi.com?
-
Yes, it is lisanifarisi.com
The blog URL above is directed to it, but now neither the original adress nor the latter domain shows my blog. -
Thanks for confirming. The domain lisanifarisi.com expired on 1 August 2012 and is currently in redemption.* This means that the domain is deactivated, but has not yet been fully released. During this time, you can still renew this domain, but the process is more complicated than a regular renewal.
If you’d like to renew this domain, you have several options:
1) We can renew the domain for you through our registrar. This costs $85, which includes $5 for the domain and an additional cost of $80 for a late renewal*. We have no control over this additional cost, as it is levied on us by our domain registrar.
2) Try to register the domain through a domain back-ordering service, such as Pool (Registering starts at $60 with Pool) http://pool.com/
3) Wait until the domain is out of redemption and becomes available for registration again. Then, you can register it again for the regular price of $18. This would run the risk of the domain being registered by someone else before you, or the domain not being released for registration at all. The exact redemption period and the release of the domain are at the discretion of our domain registrar and we can’t control it.
If you want to have the best chance of getting the domain back, your best bet would be the first option. If you choose this option, please reply to this forum thread letting us know. We will then send you a request for payment via PayPal to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account.
Once you reply with the 17–digit PayPal transaction ID from that payment, we’ll contact our registrar on your behalf, asking to restore the domain.
Please note that time is of the essence here. Because the domain is very close to being cancelled, it may no longer be possible to recover it. If you pay for renewal and we are unable to recover the domain, you will be fully refunded.
* Side note: I see that you’ve paid the $13 domain mapping fee, but that actually didn’t renew the domain after the expiration date and it was in redemption already. I’ve made the adjustment above to reflect your previous payment.

Thank you for clearing up things for me.
When (I thought) I renewed the domain 2 months ago, I used the Buy Now button at the Store -> Add a Domain page, and it didn’t tell me it wasn’t a domain renewal but just mapping. I seriously did not doubt for a moment that the domain wasn’t renewed or registered. I am not completely inexperienced with web registrations, and I would understand it if it gave a clue.
2 months ago, the site went down again because the domain expired, I waited a few days for it to be released again (I couldn’t renew it because some other account bought and gifted it to me before), and used the Buy Now option when the button became available again. The site came back to life.
I think I was mislead with lack of proper information. I am not really happy about this. I wouldn’t pay $13 mapping fee for just 2 months, and try to find a way to renew my domain before it was this late.

I’m sorry you aren’t happy about this. I’ll make sure to let our team that deals with domain renewals know about this to see where we can make the process more clear.
The “Buy Now” button that displayed means that you weren’t renewing the domain. Also, since you’re not the domain owner, the “Renew” (or “Contact Support”) button wouldn’t appear.
In any case, I’m prepared to take steps to help try to get the domain restored. Since time is of the essence, can you let me know which option you want to pursue above?
