DNS records still pointing to WordPress.com
-
I created a WordPress.com account, bought the premium plan to get a domain, and then realized I should’ve used WordPress.org, so I cancelled my premium plan and successfully transferred my blog material to WordPress.org. My host is BlueHost, and I was able to register the same domain with them. However, I’m still getting an error message when I type in my URL that says, ‘Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain. ‘ I contacted BlueHost and they said I need to contact you, WordPress.com, to tell you to update the name servers and point it to them.
How do I do this??? Or is this something that I’ve already done and just takes 24 or 48 hours to take effect?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi sarahthedoer
Can you provide us that domain? So that we can look into this and help you out.
Here is the link for a guide that helps to change the name servers for the domain registered with WordPress:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/Or you can transfer it to another registrar using these instructions:
Hope this helps

Hi sarahthedoer
this something that I’ve already done and just takes 24 or 48 hours to take effect?
– I just want to confirm if you have already change your name server to Bluehost with this domain or not.
If you have changed then that will take around 72 hours to make it active as mention
The changes can take up to 72 hours to become active, but typically take only a few hours
Please let me know have you done the change of name server or not.

Hello folks, A quick WHOIS search shows that the domain is still pointing to WordPressdotcom and the registrar is Automattic so I believe Staff assistance will be needed in helping to sort this out. I’ve tagged this thread for their attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Another quick chat with BlueHost confirmed what you just said, justjennifer. I need to get in touch with staff to see if they can help me transfer it. Will tagging this thread be enough to get there attention or is there another way to contact them?

Hi sarahthedoer,
I see you cancelled sarahthedoer.com shortly after registering it. Cancelling a domain means you give up ownership, so it’s not something we recommend doing if you wish to use it again.
There are a couple of options:
1. If we act quickly, I can restore sarahthedoer.com back to your site. The plan has already been refunded so I will need to send a payment request for the domain cost ($26).
It is only possible to transfer a domain 60 days after the registration date but I can help you point sarahthedoer.com to Bluehost until it is ready for transfer.
2. Because sarahthedoer.com was cancelled so quickly, it should be released back into the pool of available domains in around 5 days. However this is the riskier option because there is no guarantee you will be the first to register it again.
My host is BlueHost, and I was able to register the same domain with them.
Until it has been released, the domain is in our control so I’m unsure what you have purchased through Bluehost.
Please let me know which option you prefer and if you have any questions.
Thanks!

GemmaCevans, I called BlueHost again about this issue and they told me that WordPress.com is not allowed to withhold this domain from me. I purchased it, and even if I don’t have a premium account with you anymore you can’t withhold the domain for 5 days. Please help me direct the domain to my new host, and then send me the EPP code. I willing to provide my BlueHost purchase details privately.
Can you please advise me on how we can continue this customer support privately and not on a public domain?

Hi sarahthedoer,
they told me that WordPress.com is not allowed to withhold this domain from me
We aren’t withholding sarahthedoer.com. You cancelled the domain and then requested a full refund for the plan, which included the registration cost for sarahthedoer.com. At this point you have opted to give up ownership of the domain and receive a refund for the money you paid.
Please help me direct the domain to my new host, and then send me the EPP code.
It is only possible to transfer an active domain — sarahthedoer.com is in the process of being cancelled at the registry so it can be released for purchase elsewhere. The domain can then be registered through Bluehost or another domain provider of your choice.
I hope this helps clarify the process but I can follow up with you by email if you have any further questions.
