You need to point your domain’s name servers to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    Hi everybody,

To configure DNS with my provider, he asks me these information : “l’enregistrement de type A (l’adresse IP de l’hébergement) et l’enregistrement www. “
Sorry it is in french :-)

Could you help me please et give me these information?
    Thank you !

  • @byloune

In future, please start your own thread rather than posting into an old thread created by someone else.

Who is your domain provider? We recommend that you change the name servers to point the domain to us, as it’s more reliable than adding our IPs to the domain.

You will need to add two A-records with these IPs:

    192.0.78.24

    192.0.78.25

But please try the name server option first.

    Hi Kokkieh,

    Sorry for the mistake.
    Thank you for your answer!

I’m lost bécasse you say to do like this and my provider (Amen) says to do in another way…. 😕

    Val

  • Some providers don’t want to change the name servers. If that’s the case with your provider, you can use the IP addresses I gave above. Just ask them first if they can change the name servers, as that’s the recommended method.

It is possible but they told me, in that case, I lost the services relied to my email address (it is difficult to translate sorry)
Here is the French sentence from my provider :

« Nous vous rappelons que cette modification entraîne la suppression de toutes les données et services associés au domaine (site web, adresses de messagerie, etc.) chez Amen sans droit de remboursement. En effet, en modifiant les DNS primaires, vous allez renoncer à la gestion technique du nom de domaine chez Amen »

  • You can move your DNS records for your email over to us as well, but it’s fine if you prefer to keep it at your current provider.

Ask them to add both the IP addresses I gave above, and the mapping upgrade should start working.

Thanks a lot for your help, Kokkieh

  • You’re very welcome :)

    Hi Kokkieh,

it seems there is a misunderstanding.
You gave me primary adresses DNS.

In fact I would need :
    => an hosting IP address
    => a C-NAME field

Could you help me by giving me these information?
    Thank you!

    Val

  • A CNAME is only necessary if you want to map a subdomain.

To map the root domain, byloune.fr, adding those two IPs as A records on the root, is enough, and indeed your WordPress.com site loads without problems for me at https://byloune.fr/

If you want the www version to also work, then add two more A records for the www subdomain, using the same two IP addresses – your domain provider will know what that means.

Sorry, i did it on Sunday and it doesn’t work. I put two A-records with the IP addresses you gave to me for the www subdomain.

Please can you give me a hosting Ip address (not a IP address of primary DNS) and a C-Name field ?

    Thank you for your comprehension.

  • Hi – Did you ask your domain provider about this as kokkieh mentioned?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Liz,

I have already answered to this question. I talked with my provider. And what we need is:
An hosting IP adress (not primary DNS)
    And a C-NAME field.

    What’s wrong with my demand?
    Please explain me.

I have paid WordPress for one year, but if necessary I will change for another content management system. I don’t want to lose my time. 😕

    Thanks for your answer.

  • What you are requesting is not possible with WordPress.com.

Using A records or name servers for a root domain are the only options.
