DNS Settings

I’m trying to point a domain name I own to my wordpress blog. it is registered through Domainz (an NZ site). As I understand it I need to change the DNS settings in my Domainz account, which requires IP addresses as well as NS addresses. I’ve tried to set it up but now instead of my site pointing to wordpress, my wordpress site is now pointing to my website with the other name I own. It’s weird.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks like your domain (marymacgregor-reid.com) is currently pointing to your WordPress.com blog marymacgregorreid.wordpress.com. Is that the domain and blog you’re referring to? If so, you’ll just need to change the primary domain on your account from the default WordPress.com URL to the custom domain here:

    https://marymacgregorreid.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

If you’re referring to a different domain, could you please let me know the domain name?

Hi Jeremey, thanks for getting back to me! yes that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. I’ve changed the DNS with my domain name hosts and I have edited the DNS settings in WP as per the instructions.
The trouble I am getting now is that even though I have specified the default WP URL to be my custom name, my custom domain name points to my old (under construction) site and not to my WP blog where it is supposed to. Maybe it’s just cached or not propagated yet??

Oh, and Safari gives me this message when I try to view it using that browser:
Too many redirects occurred trying to open “marymacgregor-reid.com”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which is then redirected to open the original page.

I went ahead and switched the primary domain on your account to your custom domain. It’s loading fine on my side. If you’re still having trouble, it could be a browser-related issue. Can you try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies? Instructions can be found here:

Let me know if that works for you!

I cleared the cache in all the browsers I was trying and now everything is working! Should have thought of that ;) Thanks so much!

Not a problem! I’m glad we were able to get this working correctly. Let me know if you run into any issues!
