DNS to be updated query

  Hi there,

  I recently paid £11 to renew my domain, but my website is down. WordPress are saying I need to update the DNS. To be honest, I’m not sure what it is.

  There are no links forwarding me to where I need to go to get this updated. Other forums are suggesting there is an additional charge which seems a bit of a con to me.

  Could you please clarify what’s happening? What’s a DNS? Why isn’t my site working?

  Hello,
  DNS is necessary so that someone visiting sarahponsford.co.uk actually gets to your content.

  According to the whois, sarahponsford.co.uk has expired. So the first step is to check with the company (123-reg.co.uk ?) where you registered the domain to make sure they are processing your renewal.

  Once your domain registration has renewed properly, you can update the name servers to point to where your site is hosted. I’m assuming it’s not on WordPress.com (please correct me if I’m wrong), so for further assistance, please visit the WordPress.org support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/

  If you don’t have a username at that forum, you’ll need to register before posting.

  Hi there,

  Thanks for the clarification!

  I think the issue has been that someone has reserved my domain name. Although it’s still not turning up in Google.

  I’ve been thinking about changing it anyway. Bit annoying that WordPress tell you to pay for something that isn’t available though.
