DNS/Domain issues

I am trying to establish my website on WordPress. It was originally on Blogger with the URL http://www.writeonmusic.com — I need to keep that same URL on my new WordPress site.

I mapped the Blogger site to the WordPress site (for $13). Then I deleted the Blogger blog (after backing it up).

I’m not too technically savvy but I keep running into DNS issues, which I don’t know how to work on or fix. Can I purchase the writeonmusic.com domain from WordPress now that I’ve deleted my previous site with the same URL?

    Hi there,

Domains work in such a way that you cannot delete them and then have them available again in a short period. Had you purchased your domain through Blogger? If so, is there any way that you can re-activate your account so that you can retrieve your domain and transfer it to a third party registrar?

I ask because the issue that you’re having with your domain is that its nameservers are not currently pointed towards us, which is the final step needed for your site to come up. You’ll need to get your nameservers changed in some way to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

At which point your domain will start resolving to your site here at WordPress.com.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for your response. According to this site (http://who.is/whois/writeonmusic.com) my domain is active. I just can’t access it or something.

I’ve tried to get the http://www.writeonmusic.com domain running again on Blogger but I keep running into issues that I have no clue how to address. I was getting tips from someone in one of their forums, who was very helpful, but the advice didn’t line up with what I was encountering.

Bottom line, I just want to have http://www.writeonmusic.com up and running at WordPress. If/since the domain does not seem to be gone, is there some way to bypass Blogger at this point and set up the domain here at WP?

    Like Ash mentioned for:

The nameservers are not currently pointed towards us, which is the final step needed for your site to come up. You’ll need to get your nameservers changed in some way to the following:

Please contact your domain registrar if you need help setting your name server records.

Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

I was able to have the registrar (eNom) unlock my domain (www.writeonmusic.com), and I was sent the EPP/transfer authorization key.

How do I proceed with getting my domain up and running on WordPress? I don’t know anything about how to update nameservers, DNS settings, etc.

I need to get my site running as soon as possible. Any insight you may have is most appreciated.

Sorry for the confusion. We don’t take incoming domain transfers. Therefore it’s only possible to map an existing domain to your WordPress.com blog. Since you already have purchased the domain mapping upgrade, you’ll need to change the name server records to us so the domain redirects correctly.

You can contact your domain registrar to help you with that. Make sure to let them set the correct name server records as mentioned before.
