Do Alex Donncha Dougal Matt Michel Mike Ryan know about their ‘Association”?
-
I found this trackback link WillSmithDOTwpbloggersDOTcom on my self-hosted wordpress blog this morning.
It claims the “Associates” are: Alex, Donncha, Dougal, Matt, Michel, Mike, Ryan.
The links to the aforementioned associate’s blogs appear authentic, but I get the feeling this blog is spam.
Can anyone inform me?

I know that every free template downloaded from http://wordpress.org comes with these “developer links” in it. I have gone to the url you indicate and see it’s for a pinging service. However, I do not see any mention of the wordpress.com developers names an/or links to them at that site.
I would delete the trackback in question. I’m getting lots of trackback “spam” these days. I check out every one before I delete or approve them.
Also note that we volunteers do not provide support via email. You must return to the forum to find answers to the questions you post here.
Lastly note that as this question pertains to your wordpress.org install you have posted to the wrong forum. Please post to http://wordpress.org/support

Let me guess: the splog was using the ‘Green Marinee’ theme. That theme uses the header ‘The Associates’ for the blogroll. I’ve always thought that was sort of annoyingly whimsical, but I wouldn’t have anticipated it causing this level of confusion.
Wpbloggers.com appear to be a legitimate WordPress MU host, but they have been having a lot of trouble with splogs lately. They ask that if you see a splog on their servers you report it to them, and they will nuke it.
