Do any themes allow full text posts?

I chose the grisaille theme and realized after I posted my first blog entry that it only displays an excerpt rather than the image and full text of my post (if you’re looking at my site to see what I mean, the stories page is the one set up like a blog). I find it very unattractive, but can’t find a way to change this and am led to believe by what I’ve read on the forums that some themes just don’t allow full text posts.

Does anyone know of themes that do allow full text posts? I’ve been searching for a while and haven’t found anything, and don’t know how to figure this out without testing a whole bunch of themes individually.

    Thanks in advance :)

MOST of them allow full text posts.

Ah, thank you. I guess I just hit it super lucky.

Hi there, did you change the theme or managed to figure this out? I am posting image thumbnails, which I want to appear on the landing page, but for some reason, only short text is displayed. I have checked and re-checked my settings – reading page is clearly set up to show “full text”. Wonder if you had the same issue?

will be grateful for a response.

Every other theme I tried allowed full text posts, but I decided to stick with the one I originally chose because summaries work better for my content and I really liked the looks of it.

On the reading page, there’s a setting that lets you choose between full text and summaries, but I think that’s just for RSS feeds, not for the blog. I couldn’t find any settings at all that would allow me to mess with posts like that.

One thing I did discover, that I only mention because of your comment about pictures, is that my summaries weren’t showing the pictures I was using in my posts, which I didn’t like. There’s a feature when you’re composing a post that allows you to put in a featured image, though, which will make your picture show up in the summary. I’m not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it’s been helpful.

    Good luck!

thanks for replying. I had tried everything and checked all settings before posting here but in the end ended up deleting the posts and re-posting them – which resolved the issue. let’s hope it was a “temp glitch”. thanks for replying though. appreciated

As raincoaster said above almost all themes allow full posts. Ill add that themes that provide automatic post excerpts on the front page followed by read more links can be made to display full post through use of the excerpt box below the editor.

The setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.

If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.

Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. Here are the themes that do provide that feature > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410

If you use a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts then here’s the workaround to compel the display of full posts on the front page. Edit the posts and look below the editor box to locate the excerpt module. You can control the length of the excerpt displayed on the front page and the exact excerpt that is displayed there.

You compose your whole post first and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy the code for what you wish to appear, paste it into the Excerpt box below the editor, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts
If you want to create your own excerpt for each post then that will have to be done on every post.
