Do free sites lose old posts?
-
I noticed older posts are hard to retrieve and the pictures have gone missing. Is this because my blogs are free rather than paid? It’s hosted on your servers, not my own. I currently have a lot of things on Wix (I’m hating Wix – regret switching), and I want to come back, but not if I have to worry that my data is going to go missing. I’m building my author platform and it looks bad to have things that don’t work.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. Embedded or gallery images go missing for various reasons depending on whether they are hosted externally or uploaded to your website. In the latter case, a missing image typically indicates that it was deleted from your media gallery.

Hi!

@musicdoc1 is correct here. Free sites are not restricted to any kind of post limit so your older posts shouldn’t be disappearing.
There is a 3GB space limit for media items, which would affect pictures you’re uploading to your blog posts. However, you’re well below that. Could you let me know the name of a few posts that you’re having trouble locating?

Here’s a post where the picture stopped working on one of my blogs: https://otowniaido.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/iaido-demo-for-the-2014-japanese-festival/
There’s quite a few on my derby blog and there doesn’t seem to be a reason or rhyme like age of the post:http://littlederbygirl.wordpress.com/2013/08/13/impatient/
I’m not sure if posts are actually missing entirely, but pictures definitely are though they’re still uploaded, so I’m not sure why they aren’t showing in the posts.

Well, that’s not hard. The HTML code for teh missing widget in the second link there indicates the image is NOT uploaded to the blog but hosted elsewhere. When you hotlink an image, you don’t get to control whether or not it shows up. The original host does. So if it goes offline or the URL changes, there’s nothig you can do about that.

@raeanneroy – As @raincoaster explained, this issue here is that the files are sourced from somewhere else. For example, on your post here, you’ll find the following image code:
<img src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t35.0-12/10567698_10154343977230696_1403344382_o.jpg?oh=9a41876caad89f335d448308da121277&oe=53CEE66A&__gda__=1406040711_1423727e69959c8613385772d8d350a9" alt="" width="683" height="1214">The src part indicates the source URL for the image, essentially where the image can be found. In this case, it looks like the image is missing from that location.
Unfortunately, the easiest way to fix this would be to modify each post and add an image that’s uploaded to your site versus uploaded elsewhere. This ensures you have complete control over the images on your site. More instructions here:
