Do hIts go down after update of historic posts?
-
Hi
I have a blog (yehaaaa) http://www.talkingbollocks.wordpress.com.
I have been adding posts gradually and gradullay my hit count is going up.
Last week I went back and addded tags to a few posts that I’d neglected to add tags to. I also put a few into different gategories. I thought that the tags might help people find the posts and so my hits would go up.
But they have gone down. This coul be just coincidence but could it be because the posts are now classified as new as the last update date has changed?
I don;t know why this should be true?
Any ideas?
Thanks for any comments.

How many tags have you added? There is a limit. Sources say around 12 tags+ categories, but I get better rankings with less, around 5-8 tags+categories. By the way, if you write key word rich content, you can use less tags.

Sure. Just keep in mind that the 12 limit is for tags+categories. In other words…3 tags plus 4 categories to WordPress is the same as 7 tags.

One thing I do now is use the “Excerpt” on the post editor.
Wordpress users still find your tags on the tag page. But the Excerpt will show up on google search summaries. people can find your post hitting the keywords in your summaries on google and yahoo searches.Just something to experiment with SEO.

Right. I too have found that excerpts are an often overlooked feature that can really increase readership.
