Do I have to pay for the domain name on bluehost and wordpress?

    Already bought domain name from bluehost and am being charged to connect to wordpress

    That is correct, you need to pay for the domain mapping to your blog here $ 13.- / year

    I’m expanding on auxclass’s response.

    WordPress.com provides free blogs and free hosting for them. WordPress.com does not accept domain name transfers but mapping to an existing domain can be done.

    Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

    Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

    Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet.     All of our answers above are based on the theory that you want to have your blog hosted here with a domain name you bought at BlueHost

    However the other (costs more) is to be hosted on BlueHost – in that case you do not pay WordPress.COM for anything – the cost of the domain mapping will be built into the cost of the hosting

    The “WordPress” software is free to use if you host on BlueHost – you would then have a WordPress.ORG install – BlueHost should have a “One Button Install” to put the “WordPress” software on a site hosted with them.

    If you choose to have your site on BlueHost – then you will need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG
