Do I need a different theme? It won’t show all my text.

I didn’t see either of these questions asked elsewhere!
1. I’m not looking for anything fancy. Headline and quote, up there at the top. That grey bar is cutting it off, though.
2. Where it says “blogroll” it should say “links.” That’s the name of the widget – which doesn’t offer the opportunity to change the name, like the other two did.
3. I have more categories than are appearing in the dropdown box.Why aren’t they all showing up?
4. I test posted with that cartoon, but it’s cut off on the right side. How do I avoid that?
Thank you!!

What is the URL of your blog here at wordpress.com?
1) Can’t answer till we have the URL of your blog.
2) The title shown at the top of the “links” widget will reflect the categories you assign to your links. Create and assign the “links” category to all of them and then the title will change to “links.”
3) If posts have not yet been assigned to categories, they will not be displayed in the categories widget.
4) Since I don’t have a link to your blog, I can only guess that the image is too wide for the post area. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/

D’oh! I thought my name there in blue would link to it (can you see why I’m not looking for anything fancy!)
2)thanks, will try again
3)I see. So, for all of the categories to appear in the box on the main site, there must first be a post for them.
4)I’ll look into that, too. I use blogger for my personal blog, and have never had any problems with these things (copying and pasting cartoons and such).

**The title shown at the top of the “links” widget will reflect the categories you assign to your links. Create and assign the “links” category to all of them and then the title will change to “links.”**
The only thing the links widget says is Links.
I went to “link manager,” where “blogroll” is it’s category. I clicked on “edit,” and unchecked that box, saved changes, but it still says blogroll…

Ok, I got it! Thanks!!
Now, to figure out how to make sure I’m not embedding an image that won’t show up…
and to fix the title!
-
1) I cannot get the image (cartoon) to work. It seems archaic that I’d have to save it to my computer, open it in a program, reduce it’s size and then put it on the blog.
Or use another program like tinypic.com, to reduce it, and then come back to wordpress. I’m used to pics being automatically resized…
2) Still don’t know why my headline isn’t all showing up.
-
Your headline isn’t showing because your main header line is long enough to need 2 lines of text. You can’t change the size of the font without the CSS upgrade. I’d suggest you find a title for the blog that’s slightly shorter, and then the tag line underneath will show normally.

With the image, you have two choices: either resize it as thesacredpath suggests, or you can link to it as a thumbnail.
Find the file under Manage – Upgrades, then select the ‘thumbnail’ option you want and insert that code into the post.

Thank you so much for your responses. I had tried and tried to find how to change the title that first day, and couldn’t, but found it today!
I could not get this code to work, though:
<embed type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” src=”http://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf” width=”288″ height=”192″ flashvars=”host=picasaweb.google.com&RGB=0x000000&feed=http%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Fdata%2Ffeed%2Fapi%2Fuser%2Fcolacollegeenglishdepartment%2Falbumid%2F5153884346847742097%3Fkind%3Dphoto%26alt%3Drss” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer”></embed>
-
That code is flash, which is stripped out for security reasons, as are javascript and iframes.
You can also resize photos once they’re in the visual editor. Click on it and little boxes will appear on the corners for you to drag inwards.
-
Hi, ros – there’s also a photo editing button on the toolbar but I always size to order before i upload so I’ve never used it and can’t say how it works.
-
Any resized image needs a bit of sharpening, which you cannot do inside of WP. Try one of the free programs on this page to resize and sharpen your image before uploading it.
-
No flash, good to know, thanks!

I tried to save the cartoon and upload it as a picture, thinking maybe I could resize it with the visual thingie…let me go try again. Thank you!
