Do I need domain mapping for a wordpress.org site?
-
I received this email from wordpress.com:
“The payment information for Domain Mapping on wild resiliency blog! is out of date, our records indicate that it expired in February 2013. This upgrade replaces your site’s default address of “wildresiliencyblog.wordpress.com” with the custom domain “wildresiliencyblog.com”.”The blog is now at hostgator.com. Do I still need to carry domain mapping as indicated in the email?
Thanks.

You do not. The only reason you might find it useful is if you had given the http://wildresiliencyblog.wordpress.com/ URL out to a lot of people. As the Domain Mapping upgrade would redirect wildresiliencyblog.wordpress.com to wildresiliencyblog.com and thus to your new site. but if you have been using wildresiliencyblog.com exclusively, then I wouldn’t worry about it.
I can cancel it for you so that you do not receive additional renewal emails. Or you can simply let it expire.
