Hi everyone,
I currently have a blog through wordpress.com that I upgraded to the premium package. I now want to switch from wordpress.com to wordpress.org because I want to be able to add plugins. My question is, do I need to keep my premium package through wordpress.com or can I cancel it?Thank you,

You will need to keep the domain and domain mapping upgrade. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.
Here’s a brief summary of what’s involved in moving:
To move your content you need to create an XML export file of your content. It will not include the theme as they cannot be exported. See 3 below.WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/
2. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
http://wordpress.org/themes/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/3. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.
4. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ or if you have domain mapping then update the nameservers
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/#change-name-servers-to-point-the-domain-outside-of-wordpress-com5. Transfer subscribers and stats. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
6. Set your wordpress.com blog visibility to private. To change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Alternatively you can purchase a Guided Transfer and Staff will do the move and set up for you http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

Thanks for the reply…. I transferred everything over to wordpress.org and I tried to redirect my domain name through my wordpress.com blog and it isn’t recognizing the url that was given to me from Bluehost. Any ideas?

Hi there,
I checked on your domain “aboutyourhood.com” and can see that it’s registered with Godaddy. To have it point to your new servers at Bluehost, log in to your domain manager and modify its name servers to:
ns1.BlueHost.com
ns2.BlueHost.comCheck out Godaddy’s support page for instructions:
http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/664/setting-nameservers-for-your-domain-names
On the page, make sure you look under the “Setting Custom Nameservers for a Domain Name Registered with Us” subheader.
Alternately, you may contact Godaddy’s support team and send this message:
I would like to use my domain aboutyourhood.com for my website hosted on Bluehost. In order to do this, I need to point my domain’s name servers to the following:
ns1.BlueHost.com
ns2.BlueHost.comI do not want to transfer my domain, but want to leave it registered with you. Bluehost requires the name servers to be updated as described.
Regarding the Premium upgrade, feel free to cancel it anytime. You may want to purchase a Site Redirect upgrade if you’d like to point visitors to your WordPress.com address to your new blog.
Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks!

Great, thank you very much. When I type aboutyourhood.com, it goes to my new site but the url changes to http://69.195.124.212/~aboutyo6/. Is there a way to change it aboutyourhood.com?

Hey there!
You’re on the right track. :) Changing name servers usually takes a few days before they fully propagate and get settled in the new web host. Please wait it out for a day or two for your domain to start working properly. Cheers!

Hey there,
My domain is still http://69.195.124.212/~aboutyo6/ when it should be aboutyourhood.com.
Can you help me out so I can fix this
Thanks,
Dave -
Hi Dave!
It would be best that you contacted Bluehost about it:
https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help
Since your question involves a service outside of WordPress.com, my ability to help you is limited. Sorry about that! But do let me know if you had other questions regarding the account that you have with us. Cheers!
