Do I need premium to transfer posts from 1 site to another?

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to transfer all my posts from 1 site to another site. Video tutorials mention about installing a plugin, although I think I need to have premium to download plugins??

Is there any other way to transfer all my posts, otherwise I will have to do it manually which will take hours :(

    Thank you

    Hi,

Any tutorials that mention installing a plugin usually is for a self-hosted WordPress.org site. WordPress.com doesn’t grant users access to the server or files.

This doc will clarify the differences between the two:

To move/transfer your posts to another site, the doc below will guide you. Choose the option most appropriate for you:

Ok great, thanks for the information. I will read these and hopefully it goes alright!

Just to confirm, if I move posts from an old blog/website to a new blog/website, are the post on old one completely removed? Or do they still stay on the old one after you have exported them? Just in case something goes wrong and at least I have them on the old blog still,

    Cheers :)

They stay on the old site unless you delete the old site, which I do not advise you do.

Keep your old site active to cross check and make sure everything is transferred over (posts, pages, media, etc.)

Basically, you’ll be exporting a file from your old site which will give you .xml file. Then you take that and import that into your new site.

Ye, I am not going to delete it. I might just use the old one as a test one. And luckily images get imported now, as I think an old version didnt allow that, or I might have misread.

Thanks for the help ohheyitsdaphne, really appreciate it! :) Good-day
