You can do a lot with WordPress.com!

There are a lot of beautiful photography themes available:

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/subjects/photography/

Adding playlists, videos, and polls (all possible with WordPress.com) are good ways to make your website more interactive. So is allowing followers to subscribe to an email list and sending them periodic email updates.

The nice thing about having your site here on WordPress.com is letting the staff worry about keeping your website platform up to date and vetting all the code that gets included. When you switch to WordPress.org, you have to be responsible for all that technical stuff, as well as the creative side of things.

I’ve run both WordPress.com and WordPress.org sites and I have to say, I enjoy the “wild wild west” aspect of WordPress.org. Total autonomy, total responsibility! If you like the idea of rolling your sleeves up and digging into the innards of your website’s platform, WordPress.org may be for you. But it sure is nice to not have to worry about bad plugins breaking your website!

    Hi Thanks Susan,

I was getting a little frustrated when I watched the youtube 2015 type of set-ups but if i can get similar results where i am that’s fine I will have to do a crash course on the wordpress official tutorial

    thanks again

We really can’t help you with workarounds unless you tell us exactly specifically what you want to do. “Cool stuff” isn’t specific enough.

Pay no attention to the YouTube videos; they will never apply to a WordPress.com blog. Go through http://learn.wordpress.com to start and read the forum. When you have a specific idea, type the keyword in the search and see if that’s already been discussed. It probably has.

    Hi Raincoaster
Thanks for the reply. I will have to look through the demo themes to see what catches my eye. What I want to create is an interesting blog that is not just one flat uninteresting page, as I am a visual person I want to have say a photo or cartoon that can be hovered over that then tells a story about that picture or takes you to a page of cartoons or photos. Also a readers input area for leaving msg. contact section side bar.

But as I say I will have to look through the themes again and as you pointed out forget youtube

    Thanks
