Do I need to keep Hostgator?
-
Hi everyone!
I’ve been building up my blog site to incorporate all the elements of a great website. My current website — which is much out of date — is hosted by HostGator.
The thing is, my domain and its mirror are registered with Gandi.net. HostGator is just holding all the pieces to my current website, which I don’t want anymore. If I follow these instructions to map an existing domain, then do I even need to keep Hostgator? Won’t the domain just map to my WordPress blog and that’s that? (There is the matter of my email, but that seems to be addressed in the instructions. I think.)
What say you?
Thanks!
Maria

You are mostly correct. the domain name needs to be registered somewhere, WordPress.COM is not set up for incoming domain name transfers.
You will not need the Hosting part of your package with HostGator (but if your domain name is registered there you will need to pay HostGator or someone for the Registration)
