Do I need to Map or Redirect my WP domain?
-
Hi there,
I have two WP domains for walkzest and for silverheaders. I have also registered their .com domains with another service provide. What I want to do is to be able to publicly use the domains, http://www.walkzest.com and http://www.silverheaders.com as my urls while still using the WP facility for both. I should be able to achieve this without paying loads of money please. Both my domains are hosted. please help. not very techy.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I can’t see any domains on this WordPress.com account. If you have registered the them with another registrar and would like to use them here on WordPress.com all you need to do is “map” your existing domain to your site.
This support document explains the process:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
For each domain you wish to map, you will need to purchase a Domain Mapping upgrade.
You can add as many domains as you want to your blog, but you can only have one primary domain — all your other domains will redirect to the primary one. Primary domains are explained in more detail here:
Come back to me if you have any questions.

Hi Gemma,
Thank you for responding. You have helped my understanding somewhat, but I definitely require more help before I can action. I am a real novice I have to confess. Here goes…..
1) Firstly, I think that I have made a mistake in how I have set up my two WP accounts: Walk Zest & Silverheaders. They ideally should be primary accounts in their own right from what I have made out from your explanation. Is it possible for me to separate Silverheaders as a primary WP account without loosing the content I have already uploaded?
2) The domain names for both Walk Zest and Silverheaders are registered and hosted with another provider. I would like to keep the domains were they are, but have my WP blog accounts use these domain names publicly instead the default WP urls which I am currently using. It’s mapping still right?…..but just the other way round?
Thanks for your patience.

Hi,
Firstly, I think that I have made a mistake in how I have set up my two WP accounts: Walk Zest & Silverheaders. They ideally should be primary accounts in their own right
You have set up one user account and created 3 sites within that account — which means you can manage them all from one place. If you go to My Sites –> Switch Sites, you’ll see you can move between them. Each site functions independently with it’s own WordPress.com address, theme and content.
If you would prefer to manage each site separately, you can transfer ownership of a site to another WordPress.com account:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
I would like to keep the domains were they are, but have my WP blog accounts use these domain names publicly instead the default WP urls which I am currently using. It’s mapping still right?
Correct!
Hope that helps!

Hello Gemma & Team,
Thanks for the last message.
1) Separating my WP accounts. I followed your instructions to transfer my silverheaders WP account away from the Walk Zest account. However, I have still ended up with Silverheaders being linked to floraomosblog which I don’t want. Plus I cannot view any of the Silverheaders content.
Let me know what I have done wrong and how I can correct it. I only wish to have two WP accounts which must be seperate: Silverheaders and Walk Zest.
2) Mapping my Walk Zest and Silverheaders WP urls to http://www.walkzest.com and http://www.silverheaders.com respectively. Please advise on the charge options for this and the process. Thank you.
Best wishes

Hi Flora,
I have still ended up with Silverheaders being linked to floraomosblog which I don’t want.
You will need to remove yourself from any non-owner Administrator accounts from the site you don’t want to be connected with (under that account).
Plus I cannot view any of the Silverheaders content.
I can view content on silverheaders.wordpress.com. However, http://www.silverheaders.com is not a WordPress.com site and is currently showing an Under Construction message — is that where you were looking?
Mapping my Walk Zest and Silverheaders WP urls to http://www.walkzest.com and http://www.silverheaders.com respectively.
If you want to use the domains you have bought elsewhere, here on WordPress.com, you will need a Domain Mapping upgrade. This support guide shows you the steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
From each domain you wish to map you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan, such as the Personal plan.

Hello Gemma & Team,
Thank you for your message.
From WP: You will need to remove yourself from any non-owner Administrator accounts from the site you don’t want to be connected with (under that account).
From Flora: Where exactly do I remove myself please? Is that via the WP Admin dashboard area?
Will I lose my Silverheaders WP account when I do that since they are currently linked?
From WP: I can view content on silverheaders.wordpress.com. However, http://www.silverheaders.com is not a WordPress.com site and is currently showing an Under Construction message — is that where you were looking?
From Flora: No. It was my silverheader.wordpress.com content that I could not view. Only the floraomosblog page would come up when I attempted the view mode.
From WP: If you want to use the domains you have bought elsewhere, here on WordPress.com, you will need a Domain Mapping upgrade. This support guide shows you the steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
From each domain you wish to map you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan, such as the Personal plan.
From Flora: Thank you. I will proceed with this once I have gotten the WP account for silverheader.wordpress.com sorted out.
Thank you for your patience. Much appreciated.
Best wishes,

Hi Flora,
silverheaders.wordpress.com is still listed as a site in the floraomosblog account. If you don’t want the two to be associated, the site will need to be transferred to another account — like you did with your walkzest site.
So I would recommend doing that first using these steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
Once you’ve done that I’ll take a look.
It was my silverheader.wordpress.com content that I could not view.
You might need to clear your browser cache. There is a guide for that here:
When the cache has been cleared, try viewing https://silverheaders.wordpress.com/ again. I’m seeing a heading called ‘WHO IS A SILVER HEADER?’ and some images underneath.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi there,
FROM WP:
silverheaders.wordpress.com is still listed as a site in the floraomosblog account. If you don't want the two to be associated, the site will need to be transferred to another account — like you did with your walkzest site.So I would recommend doing that first using these steps:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
Once you've done that I'll take a look.
FROM FLORA:
I followed your steps to Transfer to another account. I did that and got rid of floraomosblog which I do not need.
Please note that https://wordpress.com/pages/walkzest.wordpress.com, now tells me that ……
You don't have any WordPress sites yet.
-
Hi Flora,
I can now see two sites:
Both of these sites are now managed under one account: walkzest.
You have deleted your site floraomosblog.wordpress.com. If you no longer wish to keep your floraomosblog account, you can delete it using these instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
Please note that https://wordpress.com/pages/walkzest.wordpress.com, now tells me that ……You don’t have any WordPress sites yet
When I visit that URL, I can see a list of pages on your walkzest.wordpress.com site. You may need to clear your browser cache again to reflect the latest changes.

Hello there,
I have now successfully transfer my silverheaders WP blog and upgraded it to map. I have also made changes to the name servers with my silverheaders.com domain registrar using the three WP name server details provided in your documentation. I am awaiting that process to complete.
MY ENQUIRY/QUESTION
1) When will I see my WP page using the http://www.silverheaders.com URL?2) I have already created content within ‘projects’ but they do not appear using on the blog page. Can you tell me why please?
3) Can you recommend the idea blog layout theme (design) that would best work to showcase design or model portfolios please?
Thanks

Hi Flora,
When will I see my WP page using the http://www.silverheaders.com URL?
When I visit http://www.silverheaders.com, I can see your site. It looks like everything has updated now.
At the moment, your front page is set to show posts, but you haven’t written any so there is nothing to display. With the theme you are using, you can choose to display either your latest posts or a static page. This guide shows you how to set up your front page:
I have already created content within ‘projects’ but they do not appear using on the blog page. Can you tell me why please?
Your portfolio projects can be found on this page:
https://silverheaders.com/portfolio/
If you want visitors to be able to find your portfolio projects, you will need a to add a link to the menu.
Can you recommend the idea blog layout theme (design) that would best work to showcase design or model portfolios please?
These are all the portfolio themes in our Theme Showcase:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/subjects/portfolio/
Many portfolio themes will allow you to set your portfolio as the site’s front page.
I’ve also picked out a couple that might be suitable:
