Do I need to Purchase Domain Mapping for Offsite Redirect?
-
I am currently in the process of moving my blog form WordPress.com to WordPress.org, but the new site redirect option is a bit confusing to me.
I definitely want to purchase that upgrade so my WordPress.com blog redirects to my self hosted blog, but would I need to purchase the actual Domain of my self-hosted blog first? Or can I just buy the Redirect without purchasing my domain on WordPress?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have the domain purchased from GoDaddy, but I’m sure if I need to buy it from WordPress as well on the Domain page.

I purchased one from Hover and they let me set it up to forward to my blog here no extra charge.

@adminavatar – a domain name can’t be purchased twice at the same time – set up your new blog with you new domain name – then export all of your blog from here and import it into your new site – once your new site is working the way you want – Then buy the Site Redirect Upgrade from here to send your traffic to your new site – also install JetPack Plugin on you new blog and ask the staff to transfer your subscribers
NOTE: Make friends at WordPress.ORG as they are the keepers of the software you will be using – – also make sure you make your Permalinks on your new site match what the Permalinks are on your blog here
