Do I need to purchases outside hosting for my WordPress.com site?
-
I have the WordPress upgrades: “Domain Mapping” and “Domain Registration”. In addition I am paying Network Solutions for “Unix Web Hosting”; “nsMail”; “Private Registration” of my domain name; “Web Forwarding” to an alternate domain name and “Domain Expiration Protection”.
First question: Am I paying for duplicate services?
Second question: Can I do all of the above through WordPress.com and skip Network Solutions?
Thank You!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. If you blog at WordPress.com they provide your hosting.
If you registered your domain through the WordPress.com dashboard, mapping is also included as part of that upgrade and you can also buy private registration from Store ->My domains in the dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/If you registered your domain via a different registrar, you need to keep paying them for the domain (and buy privacy through whichever service they use for that), and buy the mapping upgrade from WordPress.com. In this case you’ll still be hosted by WordPress.com, so you don’t need to pay for hosting elsewhere. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
You only need to pay for hosting if you’re setting up a WordPress.org website, i.e. not blogging on WordPress.com anymore.
WordPress.com additionally provides email forwarding from virtual addresses at your domain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/ If you prefer to have full email hosting then you’ll need an outside service: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
Also see here for additional support document regarding domains: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/domains/
Have I answered your question? If you need more information, don’t hesitate to ask.
