Do I need to specify size for Videopress videos?
-
I purchased the Videopress upgrade. When I upload videos they are much smaller. Either when I play them in my media center or when I post them, they are quite small.
Do I have to do anything to specify the size?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

When you post a video to your wordpress.com blog, it will automatically pick the size best suited (largest) to your theme.
-
Sacredpath – I deleted the video because I couldn’t use it, but I’ll put it back as an example.
Trent – so it’s theme related? I’m using emire. If this is the case then I’ll have to change themes.
-
This FAQ will give you an idea of which themes are the widest. Stay away from flexible width themes since they will size images and videos for the minimum width of the theme. This list has not been updated so there are some of the themes that are missing.

Sacredpath, thank you. I have greatly increased the width of my theme, so should that make videos appear bigger. As is they only appear about 2 inches high.
-
I need a link to the blog please. And what do you mean you have increased the width of the theme?
-
Keep in mind as well, that if you upload a tiny video it will not ever show complete size due to a minimum quality I would imagine.
-
I don’t even know which blog either, so put the URL in question as thesacredpath suggests….
-
Thanks for your replies. Here is the blog. It’s password protected since I don’t want it to be Googled. The password is test. The video is very small. All the video I try to post ends up this small.
Sacredpath, what I meant by increased the width is that i purchased the CSS upgrade and used css code to make both the container and content area wider than what comes with emire.

(I am having problems adding my blog name to my user name – I think it’s another Vista problem).

Since you’ve modified the CSS, go back to the CSS edit page, and down toward the bottom you will find, “Limit width to _____ pixels for videos, full size images, and other shortcodes.” enter 643. The 643 is the total of the original 418 + 225 the amount you widened the content area by. Then click the “save” button.

On the blog name thing, some people have reported this with Vista and IE8 and have found that if they turn on compatibility mode in IE8 it takes care of the issue. Staff is aware of this issue and are working on a back end fix for it.

Sacredpath,
Thanks so much for helping me with this. It is truly much appreciated.
As for the blog name, it may not be the same problem. I experience the same problem when I try to change my user profile. I was trying to change my nickname and when I hit save it goes to a white screen. No error message or any other indication that something is wrong. I should probably send a note to support about this.
-
You’re very welcome.
The white screen was the problem others were reporting with IE8 in the dashboard on the profile page as well as a few others. Try turning compatibility mode on when on one of the pages that have the problem and then try. There should be a sort of broken page looking icon between the address field and the search box field and that toggles compatibility mode. You can also do it I believe from the tools menu. I don’t have my PC laptop running right now or I would verify that.
