Do I really have to pay to redirect?

I’ve been trying to redirect my wordpress.com site to my new wordpress.org site. (I moved because needed more flexibility in what I could do with the page.) I’ve done redirects elsewhere, and it seems like I should be able to just add a simple string of code like <!–?php wp_redirect( ‘http://www.willeypianotuning.com’, 301 ); exit; ?–> (minus the !–…– bit) or something along those lines. Yet when I try to do that it just deletes the code. I see that there’s a “redirect” package you can buy in the store for $13, but that’s a lot of money for a simple line of code I can write myself. Does wordpress.com think I’m stupid and is trying to nickel-and-dime me for simple stuff I can do myself, or is there a reason it’s so hard to get a simple redirect?

I’ve been trying to redirect my wordpress.com site to my new wordpress.org site.

There is a site redirect upgrade available for purchase > http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

If you don’t care that every link in search engine results and all over the internet to your content will be broken without it then exercise your prerogative and don’t buy the upgrade. Posting a thread to simply mouth off in like you are a BIG I AM simply clarifies how truly small you appear to be to others.

Of course, if you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. That’s free of charge.

Thank you, time thief. I hope I didn’t come off to much like I was just posting to mouth off. Granted I was a bit frustrated at having WordPress delete my code, and I was trying to find out the reason for that, but I’m pretty sure your second post will resolve the problem. Thank you for taking the time to answer, and sorry for any offense I may have caused with my disgruntledness.

Changing code here is not permitted for safety and reliability reasons.

    Add Code to Your Site

Some of the things that are done here, I sort of look on it a bit as “their sandbox their rules” thing – but they keep some things that users do on a short leash to make the site more reliable and it also keeps costs down not needing to clean up after someone crashes something with bad code or a bad plugin
