Do I really need a domain, a host, and a wordpress account?

I think I decided to jump in a little too heavily when it came to making a webpage that I bought a domain and a host before deciding what to do about the design of a webpage and they are all from different companies. I currently have a crappy webpage though iWeb and I am trying to switch to wordpress. If I do the “mapping of domain” feature do I really still need the host company? The only thing I see that I would lose from it is my email addresses. I have not paid yet to map my domain on wordpress because I am trying to understand everything before I throw more money out there on something I potentially don’t need.

    Thanks for your input!

Ah, you’re not too far in yet. If you are switching to wordpress.com, you don’t need another web host, so you can cancel that, then pay the $13 per year to have your existing domain mapped to your wordpress.com blog. Since the domain is through another registrar, I’m not sure if you will lose the email addresses you’ve set up or not.

The email (if you have it set up) will stop working when the name servers are changed.

If you want to have email with a custom domain name – you have several options
