Do I still need to renew domain name through a different registrar?
-
I already owned my domain. I upgraded here at WordPress and used “Domain Mapping” to point my domain name to my WordPress blog. Everything went smoothly. Yay! I selected automatic renewal here at WordPress.com.
So here’s the deal: My domain registration expires with my other registrar in a month. Do I need to renew my domain name with the other registrar? Have I totally switched the registry to you now? Can I?
Basically, when my domain registry expires in April, what’s the best/easiest way for me to keep it?
Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If the domain is simply mapped to your WordPress.com blog (not registered at WordPress.com), then you will need to renew the registration at the domain registrar where the domain was purchased. Otherwise, the domain will stop functioning if it expires at the registrar. Currently, WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers. We just allow users to point their domain to WordPress.com. Does that make sense?
For example, with carlashives.com, that domain is not registered with WordPress.com (looks like LaunchPad). You would need to maintain the registration at LaunchPad plus the mapping at WordPress.com.
Let me know if you have any additional questions!
