Do I transfer or connect my domain?

    I currently have a google website which isn’t the best and I have paid for the domain http://www.newbarncars.com. I have business cards with a QR code linked to this website. I want to use WordPress to build a better quality site. Do I transfer or connect my domain? Will my QR code still work? TIA

    Hi there,

    If you create a site with us and transfer your domain here, your QR code should still work, yes. Your QR code is essentially just your website URL encoded in a picture, so as long as your URL is the same, the QR code will take people to your site. It doesn’t matter at what provider the site and domain are hosted.

    To create a new site on WordPress.com, go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ and follow the steps on the screen. You can also find our getting started guides here:

    Whether you transfer your domain or just connect it, is completely up to you – if you’d prefer to have your domain and site at the same provider, you can transfer it to us. Or if you want to leave it registered at Google you can just connect it here.

    Either way, you’ll need to be on one of our paid plans to use your own domain. If you do decide to transfer the domain, one free domain transfer is included in all our annual plans, and that will also renew your domain for an additional year, so the next renewal payment for the domain will only be due in November 2023 (we renew upgrades a month before expiry to ensure there’s no downtime due to payment processing errors).
