Do I transfer to WordPress or to Bluehost

  • Unknown's avatar

Looking to switch domain host and saw that bluehost is recommended, do I transfer my domain to wordpress or do I just set it up through Bluehost and avoid the wordpress account all together. Yahoo’s way of doing wordpress is all kinds of weird so now has me wondering what the best route is going forward

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    Hi there!

There are two versions of WordPress — WordPress.com and WordPress.org. A WordPress site hosted by us at WordPress.com is different from a WordPress.org site hosted by other platforms (like Bluehost and others).

If you aren’t sure about the differences, please check the following page that explains it well: WordPress.com vs WordPress.org.

Please check out the page above to get an idea of the differences. It’ll help you decide whether you want to move to WordPress.com or to Bluehost or other service providers where you’ll use the WordPress.org software.

Generally speaking, if you want to host with Bluehost, you don’t need to transfer the domain to us. You’ll only want to transfer the domain to us if you want to host your site with us as well. If you’re interested, here are our plans and pricing: https://wordpress.com/pricing
