Do Links work from Subdomain?
-
Setting up wordPress for the first time and something doesn’t quite make sense to me.
My wordpress url is: murmurapp.wordpress.com.
My existing domain is: get-murmur.com, managed by Go Daddy.I’m trying to create the subdomain: blog.get-murmur.com.
Here’s what I did:1. I set up the subdomain: blog.get-murmur.com at Go Daddy and redirected it with a mask to murmurapp.wordpress.com.
2. I upgraded my plan (with the $13) on WordPress and added the domain: “get-murmur.com”.At that point the most unusual thing happens! When I click on any of the links pointing outside the site, they stop working (try it out on my site).
Does anybody know what the source of this witchcraft is?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am able to visit get-murmur.com, click the links to other sites and travel to those websites. When I looked at blog.get-murmur.com, I noticed it’s an iframe instead of mapping.
Perhaps this support page can shed some light on your predicament: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#adding-a-subdomain-if-your-domain-is-registered-elsewhere-and-mapped-to-wordpress-com

Sorry, I should have linked to the top of that support page, instead: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/
The CNAME gets updated at GoDaddy, not Amazon. Getting this to work involves domain mapping (subdomain mapping in this case) which costs $13/year at WordPress.com.

redirected it with a mask to murmurapp.wordpress.com.
redirect / forward and mask have issues – that is probably part of your problem

Hi everybody,
Okay, I think I’m making some progress.
When you go to: blog.get-murmur.com, it redirects you back to murmurapp.wordpress.com. So that’s awesome! And the url remaind blog.get-murmur.com so that’s good.
Two remaining issues:
1. When I click on the “Website” button in the menu bar, it takes me to http://www.get-murmur.com but the subdomain remains: blog.get-murmur.com. I definitely don’t want it to do that.2. When I click on any link, say inside “Contact” button there’s a “Find us on Facebook” link. But for some reason it never lets me get there. It’s as if WordPress doesn’t want me to go anywhere else.
Can anyone help me figure out why it’s happening?
Thanks again!

Thanks guys.
So I’ve been endlessly mapping it, redirecting it, and forwarding it. I thought it may have something to do with the nameservers, so I changed those. But then my original site didn’t work altogether, so I changed it back.
I created an image that explains my current predicament. I know I’m getting close, but then I make a wrong move and get further away. If you can look at this image, that would be very helpful.
I tried to toggle the different combinations a bunch of times (no masking, no forwarding, update primary domain, etc.) so I’m starting to believe it’s something I’m not thinking about entirely.
Again, many thanks!

Haha, yes – I’m playing with them right now and I think I’m getting it to work. The trick was in the CNAME that I didn’t update.
I got confused in the documentation whether the CNAME/Nameservers apply to domains/sub-domains. Finally working.
Thanks so much for your continued assistance. I really appreciate it!
