Do most themes have customizable galleries?

  I would like to create a website with over 100 photo galleries based on photo tags. Many photos will show up in more than a few categories.

  I would like each gallery to display non-cropped thumbnails without captions, and the full size images to include captions.

  I am new to wordpress so I’m not sure how to go about choosing a theme. Do most themes offer this functionality?

  Are there any themes you would recommend that would be good for this purpose? I like clean, minimal flat design layouts.

  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
