Do my RSS feeds actually work?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Albeo theme on the hosted service (com).

The theme comes with a chicklet at the top right but it gives the reader three choices of reader/aggregator only.

I’ve tried using Feebburner several times and I am totally lost.

I’ve looked around and all the tutorials say the same. Sign up and hey presto you are done. Then other screens come up and it is not very clear what they are for.

    This is my understanding.

    1. My feed is http://flowingmotion.wordpress.com/feed/. Anyone who knows that can type that in to their reader which might also find it automatically. So I need a feed for the naive reader.

    2. The feedburner feed name is one I chooose.

    3. I suspect I need to copy some html code from feedburner to Worpress BUT there is already a feed there! Confusion.

    4. I don’t understand whether the new feedburner feed will remove the original WordPress feed?

    5. I certainly don’t understand what else I am supposed to do on the feedburner side or how to get rid of the enteries to feeds I made earlier but which don’t work.

Thanks to anyone who has the patience to figure out where my confusion arises.

    Thanks Jo

    1. You actually don’t need Feedburner for naive readers, you can have this Google link which, if clicked, would take the user to Google Reader and would subscribe your blog.

    http://fusion.google.com/add?feedurl=http://flowingmotion.wordpress.com/feed

    2. Yes and no, you choose the last portion of the URL but it is mostly appropriately chosen for you by feedburner based on your blog name.

    3. This confusion will always persist because you will have two feed addresses if you sign up with feedburner. WordPress.com’s feed will not disappear.

    4. No it won’t.

    5. Not sure what you mean. You can’t remove RSS entries unless you remove your blog posts.
