Do plans include hosting?
-
Good morning. I was looking over the WordPress.com plans. Does purchasing one of these — like the $99/year one — mean that I am now self-hosted? Or do I need to purchase Bluehost, GoDaddy etc for that? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy!
With WordPress.com you do not need to carry an additional hosting plan. This is a bit different from the self hosted version of WordPress.
This guide outlines the differences between WordPress.com (here) and the self hosted version: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
I’ll be happy to answer any follow up questions.

staff-zinnia: I know you don’t need to, but curious if the plans mentioned for WordPress.com include hosting. Or are they just additional features but not hosting?
I’m referring to this page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Thanks!

The hosting is included with your plan, we take care of that for you :) So, the plans are additional features plus the hosting of your custom domain.

Got it! So last question: once the plan is paid for and setup, once can then migrate to self-managed WordPress.org?

You do not need a WordPress.com plan at all to setup a self hosted WordPress site. Is that what you’re looking to do? If so, check out the Getting Started materials on the left of this page https://wordpress.org/support/

On self hosted WordPress you’ll be responsible for site updates and fixing anything that breaks, there is not a dedicated support team like you get access to on WordPress.com.
What is your idea for the site? Perhaps I can help steer you in the right direction and avoid any unnecessary work.
