do plugins work with the 13$ upgrade (mapped domain site)?
-
when you map your domain on wordpress can you use plugins ? Also can you apply premium themes to this site ( on the 13$ mapped program)?
Or does one need to go to the premium plan to access these features? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello @wittyvows,
WordPress.com doesn’t allow plugins for security reasons. Plugins are for self-hosted blogs using the software from WordPress.org.
However, all the WordPress.com websites automatically include the most popular plugin functionality, which are listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/You can get Premium themes with your current plan – you have to pay for them a part though, which means that the fee required to get a Premium theme has to be paid on top of the $13 you’ve already paid.
Hope this answers your questions. If you have any further doubts, please don’t hesitate to ask – happy to help :)
Cheers! -
Thanks for the prompt revert! Few more things pls…if I understand correctly then I need to buy a premium theme with both the 13$ mapping and the premium 99$plan right? Either upgrade won’t cause me to loose my site data correct ?
Also if I’m looking to pick a theme that shows highlights from different pages on the home page…this would be possible through sticky notes?
And if I can’t install plugins then how does one backup the site ?
Sorry for the question bombardment! But wanted to be sure before picking a plan… -
Hey there! No problem about the questions ;)
- You don’t necessarily need to upgrade to the Premium Plan to buy a Premium theme. You can purchase a Premium theme and staying in your actual plan. However, if you upgrade to the Premium plan you’re still able to purchase a Premium theme.
- Upgrades won’t cause you any data loss.
- You can take a look at the portfolio themes, as the portfolio section works pretty much as a ‘regular’ page – and you can set it as a static homepage and arrange it the way you like. The good use of the portfolio section as a ‘trick’ to accomplish what you’d like to do depends on the nature of the content you need to highlight, I guess.
Alternatively, you can pick a theme with the Testimonials feature and adapt it accordingly.
The Sticky feature works only with the blog page. - There is an Import and Export function in your WordPress dashboard that can be used as a backup tool. The Esport function can backup posts, comments, categories and pages.
Hope you’ll find my answers useful. Any other doubts, please ask :)

WordPress.COM is hosted on three (at least) massive server farms and they backup your blog to all three sites on the go to each server farm – each server farm has a mirror of your site
they also do offsite backups – but the offsite backups are only intended in case a meteor crashes into all three server farms at the same time – there is no backup in case you hit the delete key then clear the trash
-
you are welcome – one of those bits I picked up helping in the forum for several years – if you look at the list of VIP hosting clients you will see the importance of backups being done

Thanks guys…the backup worked real easy…the one thing I’m now struggling with is to figure out an integration with Pinterest and Instagram….from what Iv read up that’s only possible through plugins is that correct as in that case il need to move the site onto WordPress.org from.com which involves a lot more technical know how!

Hello there!
The Pinterest share button can be added from your Sharing options.
You can also embed Pinterest and verify your site with Pinterest. As for Instagram, your theme features the Instagram Widget.
If you fancy it, you can also add an Instagram badge as explained here.Hope the information above is useful to you. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help. Cheers!

@stefaniamattana thanks! Have enabled the Pinterest sharing however this doesn’t allow me to let anyone viewing the post pin individual images from the post from what I understood, it simply allows the post itself to be pinned..is that correct ?
-
That is correct @wittyvows. Normally the pin button grabs the featured or the main image as image to pin.
